Introduction to Mutual Funds:

A Mutual Fund is a trust that pools the savings of a number of investors who are having a common financial goal of profit making. The money collected from these investors is then invested either in equity that is capital market instruments or in debt instruments such as debentures,bonds or may be invested partly in both.. The revenue generated from these investments and the capital appreciations realized are divided among its unit holders in proportion to the number of units owned by them. So we can say that a Mutual Fund is the most appropriate investment for the common man as it provides an opportunity to invest in a diversified, professionally managed portfolio of securities at a comparative low cost.
Mutual Fund is a process of pooling the resources by issuing units to the investors and investing funds in equity and debt securities as per the objectives as disclosed in the offer document. As the investments is made in different securities that are spread among a wide cross-section of industries and sectors therefore it reduces the risk market risk. Diversification helps in reducing the risk because all stocks may not fall down or go up at the same time

The investors shares the profits or losses in proportion to investments the made. The mutual fund companies normally come out with different schemes with different investment objectives. A Mutual Fund must be registered with Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) which is a regulatory authority which regulates securities markets
